Who We Are
Our Sound
The story of No Scotch for Tonto started in the Hudson Valley where three musicians with long roads behind them finally crossed paths at the right moment.
Patrick “Pat” Jones had spent years traveling the world with a guitar in his hands. The son of a family rooted in both African American and Cherokee heritage, his music carried pieces of both histories. Blues grit, storytelling folk, and the restless spirit of rock and roll all lived in his songs. After years of touring and performing with legendary artists, Pat returned home with a guitar, a stack of songs, and the feeling that a new band was waiting to happen.
Dave McMillen had been keeping rhythm almost his entire life. He first sat behind a drum kit at six years old and by the time he was thirteen he was already winning national drumming competitions. His playing grew up in the jazz clubs of New York City where speed, precision, and instinct ruled the stage. Dave could drive a band like a freight train or swing it like a late night jazz trio.
Then came Al Hemberger, bassist, producer, and sonic architect. As co founder of The Loft Recording Studios in Bronxville he had spent years helping artists shape their sound. In the studio and on stage he had one gift that every band needs. He knew how to lock a groove so tight it felt like the floor itself was moving.
When the three of them finally plugged in together something clicked immediately.
Pat brought the stories.
Dave brought the thunder.
Al brought the pulse.
Songs that started as simple riffs turned into long smoky jams filled with blues, rock, and roots music. The sound felt old and new at the same time, like something pulled out of a roadside bar somewhere between Memphis and the Hudson River.
During one of those early rehearsals someone joked about whiskey, legends, and the kind of name a band like this should have. The phrase stuck.
No Scotch for Tonto.
A little mysterious. A little rebellious. Exactly right.
From that moment on the band was less of a plan and more of a force of nature. Three musicians with decades of experience, a shared love of raw American music, and just enough attitude to keep things interesting.
